It is important to us that tax dollars we collect are correctly accounted for and are used appropriately for Atmore. The revenue department is happy to be held accountable by the Atmore City Council during their regular meetings at City Hall. We understand that tax money we receive fuels our community by helping to support necessary services like our fire department. 

The Atmore Revenue Department is responsible for issuing business licenses, making sure that all license and tax requirements match up with established tax ordinances, and collecting fees and other revenue for the city. Information on business licenses and taxes are included below. 

 

Business Licenses

A business license is required to open a business within the city limits of Atmore. In order to obtain one, you must complete and submit a business license application as well as pay the fees that go along with it. Business licenses are obtained through county probate offices. The City of Atmore contains a probate office for Escambia County.

Who is required to have a business license?

A current business license is required for any person carrying on a business, vocation, occupation, or profession in Atmore and its police jurisdiction.

What are the steps to getting a business license?

First, complete an application. If the business is located inside city limits or the police jurisdiction, the location must meet code compliance. Once the code compliance is completed, a business license will be issued based on the type of business.The City of Atmore will determine what type of license by asking the applicant questions concerning the business. In some cases, more than one type of license may be required.

When does the business license expire?

All business licenses expire on December 31st and are renewable from January 1st until January 31st without a penalty. The one exception to this is that insurance company licenses are also due on January 1st but only delinquent after March 1st.

The form should be typed or printed legibly, as well as signed by an owner, partner, or officer in the business. Complete it and send it to our mailing address at Post Office Drawer 1297, Atmore AL 36504. Our receival of this form will initiate the process for registering your business with the city.
